Early to growth stage venture capital and private equity backed companies in the healthcare industry want top talent. More specifically, they are looking to hire from the top 25% of performers in the market and really want the top 10% of performers. This is hard to quantify and there is something to be said for the undervalued talent in the market that show the potential to break into the top quartile.

Nonetheless, there is a battle for talent out there and creating a successful company has never been harder. Every major stakeholder (payer, health system, life sciences company) is fighting regulatory battles for long term survival and they have retrenched to their core businesses. There is less discretionary budget and the mantra of ‘do more with less’ is here to stay for a while.

BUT “do more than less” has never been my mantra. I say we should strive for more- more opportunity, more honest communication, more gratitude.
